the tip of the iceberg.

February 21, 2009

I'll say, "this is such a waste of paper..."
The response is usually, "oh but it will be recycled."
If it is unnecessary, is it not better to avoid using the paper in the first place? If it can be avoided, then it would never need recycling. It is so upsetting seeing people use so much paper, printing things unnecessarily and then to justify it all, these people will note, "I will recycle it."
Oh but wait, the icing on the cake - Check out the garbage bins around the office, lo and behold, they are full of paper. So much for intentions..
Please think before you print. Thanks.

  • I know, super sad yes? ><

and even more sad is that the simple of act of reducing and recycling is an "ideal" and not a part of our everyday

you are talking about humans here, the same people who persecuted people for suggesting the sun revolved around the earth. punished socrates for asking "too many questions." people don't like change.

i'm guilty of this too, i really, really want to recycle/not waste paper. but sometimes i find myself not recycling paper/wasting AFTER. our automatic reaction is to just throw the paper, to conserve you need to be actively thinking, and who has the time for that these days? we are bombarded without a million things which need our immediate attention. therefore, when it comes to mundane tasks, we just do what we used to do (i.e. not recycling) rather than actively thinking about it.

the good news is, people do eventually change if they are constantly reminded - it takes a bit of persistence though. this is where the idealists come in...
